Alex Webb: Photographs from the Streets of Chicago

Alex Webb photographs on the streets of Chicago and in the Loop for a collaboration between Leica and Magnum Photos. The video on the Leica Camera channel runs about 5 minutes. The photo essay follows his exploration of the American city also known as the “Second City.”
One of his sources of inspiration is Ray Metzker's “My Camera and I in the Loop.” Metzker was one of Webb's early influences. Webb photographs the many sides of Chicago in color. This distinguishes his work from that of the street photographers of the so-called Chicago School.
At that point, Webb had spent most of his thirty-year career photographing outside the United States. For this photo essay, he turns his camera toward his own country. The video was released in 2012.
