Video · Natalie Merchant
Carnival
In the music video for Carnival, Natalie Merchant walks through New York with a Leica M3, photographing life on the street.
About the video
For over four minutes, you follow Natalie Merchant through the streets of New York. She looks, waits, and takes street photos with a Leica M3. Melodie McDaniel directed the video.
The song fits street photography, too: Merchant describes street life as a carnival, with a narrator watching the people around her. The camera and the song follow the same subject. Just what's happening on the street.
