A Day with Daniel Arnold

Over an hour of walking and talking with Daniel Arnold and Paulie B as they make their way through the city in episode 39 of Walkie Talkie.

About Daniel Arnold

Daniel Arnold was a writer before he turned to photography. The American street and fashion photographer was born in Wisconsin and lives in New York. He became known through Instagram, where he shared his photos in the early 2010s. He took over The New Yorker's Instagram account for a week, sharing photos from the subway. These days, his assignments include photographing the Met Gala for Vogue.

Arnold walks through the city alone and takes thousands of photos a month. He describes it this way: "My job is to walk around alone and think." His earlier style was described as hungry and aggressive. His more recent work is slower and quieter.

His book Pickpocket was published by Elara, with an afterword by Josh Safdie. You Are What You Do, published by Loose Joints, drew on about 3,000 photos spanning twenty years. His work has also been shown in exhibitions at Larrie and New York Life Gallery, both in New York.

About Paulie B and Walkie Talkie

For his project NYC Every Day, Paulie B shoots on film almost daily in his adopted city of New York. His YouTube series Walkie Talkie grew out of walks with other photographers and the idea of letting others listen in on their conversations. He calls it a visual podcast on the street, about photography, work, and life. Daniel Arnold is his guest in episode 39.
