Rules

The Street Photography Chain has a few rules. Here’s what you need to know to take part.

Joining

  • You need to be a member of straatfotografie.nl to take part. An account is free.
  • With every photo, explain why it fits the previous one in 40 to 500 characters.
  • You can add up to 5 photos across the whole of The Street Photography Chain.
  • You don't respond to your own photo. Duplicate photos are recognized by the file's fingerprint. A photo already in The Street Photography Chain can't be submitted again, even by another member. If a photo closely resembles an existing photo, the administrator is notified.

Your own photo

Only add photos you took yourself. You keep the copyright. When submitting, you must check the box confirming that you took the photo yourself, agree to the rules, and give permission to show it. This allows straatfotografie.nl to show your photo in The Street Photography Chain, on the related pages, and in share images. Your name is always included. This permission ends as soon as you delete the photo.

Privacy

Your photo, name, note, photo number, and place in The Street Photography Chain are public. You can delete your photo or account: your photo and note are then deleted, and your name is no longer associated with the photo. The photo number, place in The Street Photography Chain, time, and file fingerprint are kept. Read the privacy statement

Your note is automatically translated into English or Dutch using Anthropic's Claude language model, with Anthropic acting as a processor. Only the text of your note is sent to Anthropic, without your name or other data. During translation, the text is also checked for personal data or inappropriate content. If either is found, the administrator is notified. The original stays visible, and the translation is labeled 'automatically translated'.

Reporting

Every photo has a 'Report' button. Use it to flag a photo that wasn't taken by the photographer, inappropriate photos or text, personal data, spam, or advertising. If several members report the same photo within a week, it is automatically hidden and replaced with a neutral placeholder. No message is sent to the photographer when this happens. If you have two hidden photos within 30 days, you temporarily can't submit photos until the administrator restores your ability to submit. If your photo is found unsuitable, it may be removed from The Street Photography Chain without notice.

A possible record application

Every photo is recorded with its time and a fingerprint of the file. That record is tied to the previous record, so it can be checked later that nothing has changed. The public export contains numbers, structure, hashes, times, and countries, without names. For a possible record application, the administrator creates an export with names. Your name is included only if you checked the box allowing it to be mentioned in a record application when you submitted your photo. View the public export
